Be Getting Messy

God embraces mess.I embrace mess.

Look at the tree branches.

How moss grows

And water flows.
Look at the mess.

No straight lines.

Only curves and twists.

It is so enchanting!

Mesmerizing.

Keep looking deep within.

Feel the mess inside.

No more perfection.

No more square corners.

No more self-imposed rules.
Colourful.

Colouring outside the lines.

Broken crayons.

Using what I have.

Where I am.

Amongst the mess.

Beautifying.

Being open to the flow.

Freedom to go.

Where I don’t know.

Embracing the mess!

Be Saying Goodbye to the Backup Boyfriend

You remember in high school when you dated that guy?

That guy that you kind of knew was not the ideal match for you?

That guy that made you look around and think, “Well, if this doesn’t work out, no worries, I could date  _______________ (insert name of another guy)!”

Do you remember your backup boyfriend?  That OTHER guy that was your friend and that you knew you could always fall back on.  Perhaps its the same backup boyfriend that you made a pact with to marry if you were both single at thirty?

Well tonight, I am saying goodbye to a whole bunch of backup boyfriends.  There are no more backups for me.  I am taking 100% responsibility for my life.   My decisions are mine.  I run my thoughts.  I create my actions.  I can do whatever I want.  I am closing the book on a whole bunch of backups in my mind!

IMG_5331[1]

Goodbye to my beautiful backups:

  • My job that was ‘safe’ but not fulfilling, but had a good pension and benefits too!
  • The stuff I keep holding on to because I may “miss it”!
  • A mindset with certain family members that they will always be there if I “need them”!
  • Clothing or workout equipment that I keep around because I may wear it or use it one day!
  • People in my life that are beautiful to look at, but really don’t add any value.  People who aren’t fun nor stretching themselves.
  • Food that stuffs me down, rather than fueling me to rise up.
  • Trying to swim close to shore because “you never know”.
  • Any backups that you could add as you let this land on you?

I can no longer doubt my abilities relying on the backups to help me move forward.   I need to believe 100% in myself, letting go of the backup mindset!

Doubt and belief cannot live in the same space that I am creating.

Growing.

Without backup.

With excitement.

With gratitude.

For all that I am and all that I can do.

Being enough.

Being me!

Be Giving a Gift of Being

I am in constant flux everyday moving from being a human doing, doing, doing while try to be an awake, present human being.

As I have been journeying through this ‘beingness’, I have pondered and sat, ran and rambled and create a free gift to add value to those that want to wander and wonder as a human being.

I have created a sixty day set of emails and videos that will be sent randomly throughout the time to your inbox.  Some wonderings may surprise you, others will make you smile and chuckle, but my hope is that as a collective group of likeminded people we will live through sixty days as present, awake human beings.

Come join us… Checkout www.joannacann.com and leave your email!

I wonder as I wander…. 60 days together!

Be a Super Nova

One more peruse of facebook as I lay my head down on the pillow.

One scroll.

One glimpse.

With shock and awe I read this incredible comment from Jodi who has just finished my book.  She told me she had to share this quote as it reminded her of me:

For any fellow human being to take the time to send me a quote, I am honoured.

I have had three beautiful peeps forward “word love” my way this week!

The greatest gift we can give each other is time.

Time to shine light.

Time to share inspiration.

Time to share words.

Time to be our sparkly star-shaped selves.

Time to pray and sit holding space with each other.

Time to embrace our ridiculous awesomeness.

Time to shine like a freaking supernova.

Love a duck!

A supernova.

Me?

Gotta love the “facebook love” as you lay your head down to sleep.

Be Slaying Cake Demons

Two years of buying cakes.

Ice cream.

Fondant.

Chocolate.

Vanilla.

Cakes.

Made by professionals.

Two years ago was the first time that my boys did not have a birthday cake made by my mom.

Elmo.

Bert.

Pirate.

Digger.

Cakes.

Whatever the boys requested, my mom would lovingly and happily create.

My boys most memorable birthday moments have been their cakes.

Tonight, I slayed some cake demons.  Often the hardest things create the most freedom within us and around us.

Tonight, I made my newly four year old’s request for a fire truck cake.

Tears in my eyes.

Heart racing.

Knees trembling.

Pink icing and all.

(Who knew red icing was so hard to make?)

I MADE A FIRE TRUCK CAKE!

Soul cleansing.

Mind moving.

New habits.

Overcoming.

Triumphing.

Cake making.

Happy Birthday OC.

(My mom’s namesake.)

What hard stuff will you push through today?   What freedom will you create?

Be Finding Freedom at the Fair

Have you ever found yourself doing something you have done many times before but in a totally different way?

You can experience something as simple as going to the fall fair and find freedom.

Previously, we have gone to the fall fair and cringed at the prices of the food, rides and even the entry.  We felt we were twenty dollared to death.  It was painful.  We went because we felt it was valuable but the value we got from our money wasn’t worth it overall.

This year we saw the value.

Our minds were free.

The money we spent was worth every twenty dollar bill we spent.

Smiles.

Hugs from friends.

Special fair food.

Roller Coasters.

The Ferris wheel.

 Children will grow up.

Beloved Nana’s may die.

But no one can take away  your memories.
And don’t let anyone steal your dreams

Be finding freedom in all places, especially at the fall fair this year

Be a Dreamer

As I grew through grade school, University, professional life and motherhood, my dreamer’s heart began to fade.   My mind became prominent in my life. Other’s words about myself and my life began to permeate my being.   My brain and other’s opinions became my driving force in what was ‘right’ for me.  It became the motor and the compass.

Now, I am beginning to dream again.  I have found freedom to look beyond my current circumstances and be filled with wonder of ‘what if?”.

Full on, life-changing, nourishing dreaming.

I am surrounding myself with other dreamers and asking people about where they see themselves in five years if time nor money were a consideration.  I am dreaming every day and encouraged greatly to hear other’s dreams.
My decision to dream combined with daily hard work and discipline has propelled us to become gypsies for a week, open our home to families affected by cancer or needing hospice care, reach my person health goals, allow our tall eight year old join a competitive gymnastics team and create a list of dreams I have looking forward to the next two years.

Be a dreamer.

This post is dedicated to two incredible parents CC and TH.  We were talking about their son’s dream of playing NHL hockey.  CC said that he needed to stay in reality, but I want to encourage this whole family to dream. Remember the dream you had of owning a home and how you made it happen.  Dream of playing NHL hockey or professionally in Europe.  There is nothing holding this young man back.  He has two hardworking, dedicated parents who would help him in any way.  He has an outdoor backyard lighted rink with boards and lights!  Wow! He has a love and heart for hockey that just oozes out of him.  There is no barriers for this young hockey player.

Dream Zach, dream! It will propel you forward and take you to places you never thought possible.  Your dreams may change but I hope you never stop dreaming.

Be Shocked at my Swimsuit

Day by day.

I never realized how my daily decisions could create so many changes and breakthrough moments in my life.

One year ago…

…I was never going back to teaching… But I found my dream job.

…I was never going to ‘survive’ my mom’s death… But I did and my life has never been richer.

…I was determined not to ‘give up’ on relationships… But I let them go and am finding freedom to live.

… I was thirty pounds heavier, working out hard and wasn’t losing weight… But I am partnering with the company of my dream and have never been healthier.

Dude! Daily choices do create huge changes.

The proof is in the swimsuit.

Shocked.

Exhilarated.

Excited.

Savouring this moment.

Look at ALL that extra fabric.

Be enough, one mouthful, one relationship, one swimsuit at a time.

Be a Creator not a Consumer

Created by the Creator.

To dream.

Ponder.

Live abundantly.

Love deeply.

IMG_0009[1]

Our world tell us that we were create to consume.

Buy more.

Have more.

Do more.

And more.

And more.

Make a choice to create.

Write.

Paint.

Garden.

Move.

Speak.

We are truly meant to be creators.

My heart overflows as I write each day.

Peace pours over me as I watch my children build paper cities.

I love exploring what it means to be a creator created by our Creator of life!

Be Clickety Clacking with Vision

Clickety clack.

The pieces are all falling into place.

Snap.

Press.

Thunk.

The dreams of my mind are coming true in more ways than one right now.

Every day, I live in awe of how life events are unfolding, how my thoughts and reality are becoming woven together.

In the spring, I was thinking about a club that our family could join to create community for our boys, reinforce skills that we learn in our family that would be reinforced within this community as well as a place to have fun.  Only one week later, a friend invited us to a Paddle Centre where our family could pay a membership fee to go on Stand-Up Paddle boards, kayaks or surfskis and have our own beachfront property to use without the taxes.  A week after the open house, we were members and our family is experiencing a rich time of being a part of a caring and athletic community.

At end of June, our family create a list of what we wanted to do together this summer.  It is only mid-July and we have done almost half of the things on our wishlist.  Everyone is tremendously happy and we are enjoying being together and everything we are doing: Skateboard park, waterslides, reading together, swim parties, birthday party…

Clack.

Last fall, I had hoped for a water feature with running water in our backyard.  This summer, every day, I enjoy our wonderful fish pond.

One morning a while ago, I got up and had a thought that I would love it if my husband would dance with me.  Later that afternoon, my husband was fixing something in the bathroom, I went to take a look and wouldn’t you know it, but he grabbed me and started dancing.

Just like that.

Positive visions, thoughts, intentions, creating moments in life that inspire and encourage me.

Lastly, my eight year old, snapped a photo of me at the one place I spend early mornings and late evenings for the foreseeable future, teaching families online who school at home, connecting with people, reading and writing.   I am taking hold of my time and my vision.  The five rituals that I am creating in my life every day are: Connecting with Sexy Neck (my husband), cuddling my boys, reading, writing and exercising.

Just like that!!

I leave you with two quotes from one of my favourite motivation speakers, now deceased, Jim Rohn says:

  • “Failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day.”
  • “Success is a few simple disciplines practiced every day.”

What dreams could you create with a few simple disciplines practiced every day?

With discipline and vision, dreams do come true every day. I am proof!
