Be a Creator not a Consumer

Created by the Creator.

To dream.

Ponder.

Live abundantly.

Love deeply.

IMG_0009[1]

Our world tell us that we were create to consume.

Buy more.

Have more.

Do more.

And more.

And more.

Make a choice to create.

Write.

Paint.

Garden.

Move.

Speak.

We are truly meant to be creators.

My heart overflows as I write each day.

Peace pours over me as I watch my children build paper cities.

I love exploring what it means to be a creator created by our Creator of life!

Be Doing A Less Than $5000 Kitchen Reno

Kitchen Renovation anyone? Just say No!

I had no idea why kitchens cost so much to renovate.

My family (including my mom and dad last July) has put so much sweat equity into this kitchen it should be worth $100,000. We spent less than $5000, new-to-us appliances included.

Here is our work at this humbling progress. From brown wood and lino floors to white walls, avocado cupboards and engineered hardwood.

We found a guy who makes laminate countertops in his garage. Perfect!

Our amazing contractor installed the wood floors, a new door and my parents put their skill into painting the cupboards.

We bought a secondhand Bosch dishwasher for $200 and splurged on a new faucet, fridge, stove and hardware.

Many, many hours of painting by Steve, my mom and dad made this $5000 transformation possible. It was a labour of love.

Let’s review–

With God all things are possible.

With Sexy Neck’s ideas and vision a smokey house became a home.

With my parents labour of love, our roots have grown deep.

With our boys love of fort building, creating and playing every corner of our home has been explored and filled.

With old and new friends stopping by laughter and memories have brought us home.

Be Creating a New Life (Painting again!)

I realized as I started painting YET ANOTHER item in our house tonight that my sole purpose of painting is to create new life.

Life without my mom a phone call away.

Life without my mom to negotiate schooling and my boys. Schools aren’t the best places for boys these days!

Life without my mom at our sides reading, laughing, cooking, exploring and painting.

I am not completely sure what this new life here in KCity is going to look like. My grief-filled emotional brain doesn’t know what to do in this new life.

So I paint.

I actually don’t really like painting and haven’t painted before.

BUT as I move my brush back and forth in silence tonight, I felt myself moving forward.

The sense of working out my grief.

Peeling off layers of grief as I add layers of paint.

Create new life in the things around me.

Waiting for God to unfold my new life around me in His perfect timing.

Being in my home.

Completely present with my children.

Changing poops.

Making cushion forts.

Playing cars.

Painting.

Resting.

Being.

One brush stroke at a time.

New life.

(I finished the fireplace tonight and had some extra white paint. I attacked our bedside tables that have been in Sexy Neck’s family for many years and probably are older than us.)

….Stop me if I start painting the toilet….

Be Painting Yet Another Wall.

This wall is a paint can full of love for my boys.

First my man, Sexy Neck:

And then my wee boys:

My imperfect love poured out.

God’s redeeming love making it perfect.

All that I have.

All that I am.

Love I cannot describe.

Rich.

Humble.

Grateful.

A wife.

A mother.

Poured out through paint, through words, through actions.

Freely given.

Love.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Be a painter

I am a jock, not a musician (I do make a joyful noise when I sing!), and I am definitely not an artist, but there is something that needs to be said about putting a paint brush and some paint onto something.

This weekend, I painted 7 outside doors on our house. Yes, imagine that we have 7 outside doors (we actually have 9) and I managed to paint two coats on all of them. None of the children were injured, nor was sexy neck thank you very much. (But do check post called “Be flexible”)

Oh what a feeling getting that paint onto those doors. Especially after I picked out and painted the front door purple! YUP purple. Check out the pic: Doesn’t that look great! Even the neighbours and their daughter-in-law like it and they are the ones that need to stare at it all the time. Thanks sexy neck for giving me the time to play with a paint brush! I loved it!!
