Be Conscious Of The Stuff You Keep

“Dude!” Said in my very best surfer voice.

Last week we moved into a house that had been a family’s home for over forty-five years. The gentlemen of the home was very handy but also a bit of a pack rat. Before we moved in they hired a junk disposal company to clean out the unfinished basement. The company spent two and half days clearing about the basement.

After we gained possession of the house, we took at least ten trailer loads to the dump.

Today, Sexy Neck spent the morning cleaning out the pool pump house room. Woah!

So, should I keep those old yearbooks? How about those old volleyball jerseys and my paintings from preschool? Do my boys want to deal with all my “stuff” one day?

And what is this contraption Sexy Neck found? Seriously! Dude!

Be In Emergency

I am flat on my face humbled.

For a few days now I have been worried about: my mom not eating enough, the potential of her mixing up her plethora of medications and the impending diagnosis of the origin of her cancer.

Today, my mom spent the morning at the hospital because was dehydrated! It was so bad that her kidney function was being compromised.

Didn’t see that one coming!

A simple reminder that I am not in control and that I need to “let go and let God”.

Thank you to my prayer warriors who propped us up this morning. I couldn’t have gone through this without you.

One. Moment. At. A. Time.

Be A Royal Trendsetter

My dad is a royal trendsetter.

Prince George

We were very surprised to see baby Prince George wearing our absolute favourite blanket as he was put into his car seat after leaving the hospital.

My dad has bought each of our three boys these incredible blankets from aden + anais.

We love them because they are lightweight, good for swaddling, wiping up spit-up, using as an actual blanket and a simple cover up for breast feeding. They are the most versatile blanket for all four of the seasons that we experience here.

Our Youngest Little Prince, OC

I feel a strong connection to this wee Prince not only because of the blanket, but because I was born and raised in Prince George.

Welcome to the world Prince George. May The Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you. May your parents enjoy every moment getting to know you with freedom and grace to be themselves.

Be Making Granola

This is our current go-to recipe for bedtime snack. Thanks Diana for posting it on your blog. Here is the original post. She calls it Gnome Granola.

Gnome Granola

I rewrote the recipe below.

Diana’s Granola

4 cups oats
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup coconut
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup walnuts

Put all the dry ingredients in a big bowl.

Melt
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
And when warm add
1/2 tsp vanilla
Then immediately stir into the dry ingredients. Put on a tray. Bake at 350 for 20 mins. Stir halfway.

I put the dry ingredients in the bowl the night before. I also didn’t put in the coconut this time. Also I prefer pecans and will sometimes substitute them for the walnuts. I also add chia seeds or wheat germ sometime instead of the sesame seeds.

My foodie friend Diana has helped me become freer in changing the recipes.

This is definitely a recipe to play with and make it your own.

Have fun!

Be Questioning Cancer

Cancer, I have a few questions for you that I want to ask you:

Why can’t the doctors find your origin?

Why are you wreaking havoc on my mom’s body?

The bloating. Pain. Discomfort. Hardness in her belly. The new aches and pains. The sleeplessness. Pain.

I am mad! If only they could find the origin they could then treat the cancer. Did you know that if you have cancer that began in the uterus that is also in the lung that the cancer in your lung is not lung cancer? Nope that cancer in there would be uterine cancer cells.

These are the little tidbits that I am finding out as we wait and wait and wait to find out where this cancer started. It is only when we know where it begun that treatment can begin.

Now what am I taking from all this? My life has become very small. My husband, my boys, my parents and a few very close friends.

Sorry new neighbours I will have to get to know you when this is all over. Sorry friends on the fringe, you fell off my rattley old turnip truck. Sorry relatives that I infrequently talk to, you too will have to wait.

What else can I take from this, every day is important! I love sitting by my mom in her bed while she rests. I love seeing my boys there too! I love hearing her laugh and man do I love to tease her. Every moment is special. Every moment has meaning. Every breath has hope. With God anything is possible.

May The Lord bless and keep my mama in this time of pain.
