Be Having a House Concert with RvZ

We are living our dreams right now.

Our why is clear.

Our how and what is not.

We love it!

IMG_2028[1]

For almost twenty years, Sexy Neck and I have dreamed about Rachelle Van Zanten playing live in our home or yard.  Last night it happened!  We had heard she was playing at a festival a few hours away and we asked, yup, just asked, if it was possible for her to play poolside in our yard.  Thirty of our greatest new and old friends, came to enjoy this over two hour private show with one of Canada’s best slide guitar players, either female or male.

National Geographic Explorer in Residence, Wade Davis, has said, “Rachelle Van Zanten is our voice, the muse of the north, a woman as strong and beautiful as the mountains, as fluid as the sea.  She writes songs to inspire the wind, give voice to thunder and fire the hearts of all sentient beings fighting to protect the land she loves so dearly.”

What an incredible memory it now is.

Be Having a Papathon

I am sure you have heard of a triathlon or a duathlon or perhaps even the heptathlon from Olympic events.

But have you heard of one of the greatest sporting events to hit 2014? IMG_6941.JPGPapathon!

A weekend of activity.

Celebrating Papa’s 69th birthday.

Lovingly planned over two weeks by myself, thoughtful Sexy Neck and my three insightful boys.

Papathon began with swimming, a backyard eight hole golf course with prizes, cake, dinner out with my dad, sleepover then skating and brunch before Papa headed home. IMG_6942.JPG

IMG_6943.JPGWe tried to plan a three event weekend, like a triathlon, but it ended up being so much more than what we did.

Be ‘Including’ My Children

A few weeks ago, I received a comment, an innocent comment, that I have pondered and chewed on for weeks.

“Wow, you guys always do such a great job of including your children in what you are doing!”

I am surprised by this comment because:

🌀 On a daily basis, I love including my boys bustling energy of curiosity with what we are doing.

🌀 I never imagine doing anything without my boys hovering near by or asking to help. Even when I am just folding laundry they often help or play hockey behind me.

🌀 If we do ‘want’ to do something without the boys, we will plan for one of us to take them on an excursion outside of the house or do the activity during Naptime or after bedtime. I must admit that these times are few and far between.

Here is our family in action over the last few weeks working together on landscaping, pool opening, crib disassembling and dog training:

20140513-232731.jpgJC heard that we were going to take down the crib… One morning he awoke, got the tools, disassembled the crib and brought it all downstairs. He’s seven and had remembered working with Sexy Neck to put it up last summer.

Be Pizza-ing, Moving Playgrounds & Puttering in the Yard

I am happy to admit that I asked for help. Yup, this do-it-yourselfer and type Aer is official reformed. Our socks have been blessed off this weekend. My heart is full.

We ask a few of Sexy Neck’s friends/work colleagues as well as a friend of mine/neighbour to come over and help move our huge play structure across the yard.

We had a dump truck load of top soil arriving shortly after so we asked if the three families wanted to stay for pizza. They did and it turned into an awesome night. I wish I had gotten a picture of the ten kids around our kitchen table as well as the parent standing around them.

20140427-134306.jpgThe help we got was awesome. The people amazing.

Asking.

Helping.

Life giving.

Community building.

The gift of time and self.

Full of gratitude.

The next day we asked our friends from Vtown, Princess P and Papa B if they would share their landscaping and gardening gifts with us and help us with a few projects. They stayed the whole day helping us AND allowing our boys to help them. They were the most caring teachers showing ALL OF US how to do things. These two have the joy of angels and patience of Saints. We got to play with all of Papa B’s landscape tools. It was a beautiful day! Once the turf is in you are going to have to checkout our yard.

Be Board

Sexy Neck has a whole lot of wood around the outside of the house – in his shop, down the side of the fence, under the addition.

Today the boys wanted to have a pajama day.  This involved staying home in our pajamas.  There was no sleeping to be done though.

The boys took two pieces of boards that were lying along the fence and decided to run, jump, climb along them at various angles and speeds.  Strap yourselves in, here we go:

With one giant jump from JC, the board broke in half.  This started a whole different type of play.

In my life as a mother, I am never bored!
