Be Looking for Some Feedback on my Table (of Contents)!

My dear, sweet and intelligent readers, could you give me some feedback on the table of contents for the book that I am writing?

I have given you a basic outline and I am wondering if you could provide feedback through the comments below and via my email at jj_cann@yahoo.com.   If you give me your email, I will add you to a list of the first people to hear about when the book hits amazon.  I plan to do a ‘quiet’ release on amazon some time before Christmas.

Be Reading a Book

I am a voracious reader. Well, I used to be anyways. On average, before mom got sick, I would be reading four books at any one time. Usually one bible study, one non-fiction and two fiction books would be stacked on my beside table.

Last week at mom and dad’s house, I looked on mom’s book shelf beside her bed. On the top of the pile, I found this book I gave her in November which was one of the last books she read.

I picked the book because of it’s title and wintery scene. I didn’t even read the back.

I remember asking mom about it after she read it in two days flat. She said it was a good light read and that I should read it.

Today, I looked at the book summary. It’s about ‘three people at the crossroads of heartbreak and healing’. One of the characters lost her mom and no longer believes in anything. She believes her mom now speaks to her through heart-shaped rocks.

I may have to start reading again.

P.S. Sexy Neck just walked in the room and saw the book on my lap and asked, “Are you reading again?”

Me, I am still at maybe… Not sure my brain can handle it.

Be Smitten With The Little Drummer Boy

How often do we really listen to those good ol’ Christmas carols?

Currently, we are smitten with the Little Drummer Boy.

A few years ago, we fell in love with Silent Night. I had heard the song my whole life, but I had never paid attention to the story. The boys wanted us to sing the song and read the book over and over and over.

On the weekend, OC pulled this board book off the shelf:

We saw the music notes in the back and have been attempting to play it on the piano.

Then, Sexy Neck showed us this incredible acapella version of the Little Drummer Boy: Listen here to Pentatonix

Me, I am smitten with the beautiful story of a little boy that brought the only gift that he had to give and what did Baby Jesus do? He smiled.

On this fourth day of advent, I pray we can all beat our own drums to the very best of our abilities. May God show us the gifts He has given us…. Beat OUR drums.

Rat at tat tat!

May we sense God smiling at us!

Be ‘Carol Shaben’ Writer Extraordinnaire

Tuesday night at book club, we Skyped with author, Carol Shaben, who wrote ‘Into The Abyss’ in 2012.

Tomorrow will be the twenty-ninth anniversary of the Northern Alberta plane crash that this book is based on. This is not only a book based on a true story, but a story of Carol’s determined heart and mind.

My understanding of the back story on this incredible book are from reading about Carol Shaben in preparation for book club and hearing her talk on Skype.

Wow! We were all blown away by the connection we felt while she was talking about her book. She is a real woman!

This story had been brewing in her mind and heart since she was twenty-two living in Jerusalem. On October 19th, she was reading the Jerusalem Post and she saw a small story that her father had been in a plane crash. Can you imagine?

She wrote the book in her loft office using a gigantic bulletin board and cue cards to keep all the individual stories and lives straight. There were ten passengers in the plane that horrific October day. Only four survived, her dad, a cop, his prisoner and the pilot. I won’t tell you anymore, but the story will eat you up.

The story is written like a delicious chocolate mousse. It is smooth, textured and rich in the development of the characters. A page turner that only took me two days to read. I do devour books, but i think this book devoured me. Sometimes it is hard to imagine the the story is true.

Our book club is extremely grateful that Carol Shaben took the time to talk with us. She is incredibly down to earth and her love for writing, this book and her father flew through the computer screen. Thank you for sharing your gift Carol.

Congratulations Carol on your Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction that you will receive on November 13th along with a $10,000 cheque.
